Broker's Notes

The Moody 64 from 2004, designed by Bill Dixon, is a successful example of a modern ocean cruising yacht, conceived to combine seagoing capability with a high standard of onboard comfort. Positioned in the upper market segment of production yachts of that era, it reflects a design philosophy oriented towards long ocean passages without the need for a full professional crew. Its cutter rig with three furling sails managed by onboard hydraulics together with various electric winches allows, even for a couple, to manage extended passages safely. This operational simplicity is one of the distinctive strengths of the yacht compared to cruising vessels of similar size from the same period.

The interiors in mahogany are very beautiful and elegant, and thanks to the deck saloon configuration of the deckhouse, the saloon is blessed with plenty of airiness and light. The luxurious owner's cabin is located aft and comprises, in addition to the large central double berth, two curved leather settees, a small vanity, and an en suite head. Forward of the saloon on the port side we find the VIP cabin also with a head, while to starboard is the third cabin with pullman berths. Continuing towards the bow we find instead the crew quarters (also accessible from outside) with two berths and a fully equipped head. A third head with independent access, a well-equipped galley and a study with desk complete the interior configuration.

The current owner purchased this yacht four years ago, undertaking work to recover it from a period of prolonged inactivity. He began a comprehensive refit that involved systems, restoration of deck equipment and rigging. In parallel, time was also dedicated to the interiors, seeking to restore dignity to the spaces and bring them back to a more than respectable aesthetic condition, while preserving the original character.

There is still room for improvement and work that a new owner can personalize according to their own vision.

In summary, the Moody 64 is not a high-performance cruiser in the strict sense, but rather an ocean yacht that is nonetheless capable, but which prioritizes safety, comfort and ease of handling. It remains a reliable ocean cruising vessel, with genuine seagoing qualities and a design approach that anticipated many aspects of contemporary cruising yachts.
